So, this is my new blog. I’ve kept a few sites in the past, but I’ve never been a very good “blogger.” I start with good intentions, but I seem to lose track of my postings and soon forget about the blog in general. Hopefully, this one will be different. I’ve decided to be very intentional about sharing my feelings, insights, and experiences through this blog. As a person who is a deep-thinker by nature and a writer by choice, I think it’s very important for me to blog in order to assimilate my thoughts and opinions about my life and calling, and to allow my friends and family to share in those thoughts and opinions.
What mainly prompted me to start this blog is the fact that I will be working as a City Host for the Center for Student Missions this summer. For those of you who don’t know, the CSM is a mission-sending organization that operates in eight US cities (NYC; Philadelphia; DC; Chicago; Nashville; Houston; San Francisco; and LA) and one Canadian city (Toronto). They provide groups with an effective short-term urban mission experience – such as working in homeless shelters, food banks, clothing drives, street-outreach, etc. My job as a City Host will be to guide the groups that come to work with us around the city, and to lead devotions/debriefing sessions. I’ll also work alongside of the groups in the ministry that they do for the week. I wanted to be able to share my experiences of the inner-city with my friends and family, so -presto- my blog appeared!
While this blog will be used heavily during the summer to keep in touch with those I love, I hope that my blogging will continue into the new academic year as I start my studies for a Master of Divinity degree at Campbell. Through this blog, I hope to share my insights into life (however insightful they may be), my reflections on my calling into ministry, my experiences of ministry and people-loving, my thoughts about the Church in general, and my hopes and concerns about society. I certainly welcome comments from anyone on any of my future posts.
There’s really no telling what will show up on this site – anything from plain writing to pictures to video and beyond! However I feel I should express myself at the time will be what is posted to this blog. Life (and this blog) would definitely be boring without a little variety.
I hope that you continue to visit and read my blog; and spread the word! Look for my first “real” post sometime soon.
Grace and Peace
