I’ll be seeing you again, St. Francis.

Today was a sad day in Toronto. It was my official last day of volunteering at St. Francis Table. The Capuchin outreach restaurant quickly stole my heart and passion as soon as I started working there earlier in June, and like I wrote in a previous post, it is my absolute favorite place to be in all of the city. I love the atmosphere, the people, and the mission of St. Francis Table. So it was bitter-sweet as I walked out the front door today – leaving a place I quickly came to see as “home” but quickly moving towards the day of returning to my true home. But, I’m not too sad – I definitely intend on coming back to Toronto at some point, and I will not pass up the opportunity to serve at St. Francis while I’m back in the city.

The last day was one of picture-taking, and Brother John – the Franciscan friar who runs the place and whom I’m secretively BFF with – let me wear his habit! He told me that a person who wears a monk’s habit without actually being a monk always ends up wearing the robe for the rest of his life! I told him that’s impossible since I’m Baptist, but he said there’s always time to convert! Too funny…

St. Francis Table is a great place. God has given you this place, the people you worked with, everyone you met to help you understand some important lessons. You can serve others, share the pain of others, minister to others, all the time with joy and fun in your heart. Use the wonderful gifts, blessings and love of family and friends God has given you to help minister to other.

What a fashion statement you are making! Mom now has the Christmas Card picture.
